Warmth During Winter in a Refugee Camp

For the nearly 1 million refugees living in Lebanon, this winter is proving to be exceptionally tough. Given the collapse of the Lebanese economy, the August explosion that devastated Beirut, and continued political strife, the futures of refugees from Syria remain in peril. Refugees are not allowed to legally work, or legally own homes, so lives are relegated to tented camps (they even have to pay rent for their tents, up to $100 a month). Most families assumed these tents would be temporary, yet as the war in Syria drags on, many families are entering their sixth or seventh year inside.

We’ve been partnering with families in these camps for years, and got to pull off our biggest winter campaign yet this month. Thanks to your generosity, we’ve served more than 30 people with the coats, boots and blankets they need to safely make it through a winter outdoors.
