Recently Met Needs

Thanks to YOU, we were able to do the following recently:

So far this year:

  • Supported an unhoused guest who had been homeless for 7 years establish himself in a safe haven providing him with security and the next steps to rebuild his life.

  • Supported other organizations with their monthly support of local migrant communities in Queens with essentials.

  • Provided temporary accommodation to unhoused guests during the summer heat wave

  • Assisted a person who has experienced a great deal of loss and tragedy by replacing unusable and damaged furnishings of an apartment with replacements

  • Provided several migrants and unhoused guests with seasonal clothing.

During 2023:

  • Provided clothes, toys, books, clothes, shoes and essential household items for 5 families arriving from Kazakhstan, Syria and Afghanistan

  • Assisted a mother and her 2 teenage children who had recently moved into a shelter with new beds, kitchen and bathroom items and clothing and shoes

  • Gathered and provided all household items needed to build a home for a mother and her young kids whose home was recently burnt down.

  • Fully furnished the apartment of a person (who until recently was living in a shelter) and has been living in an empty space until now.

  • Supplied all basic clothing needs to an additional 14 migrant families (a total number of 38 individuals) ranging from 2 months old to adult.

  • Gathered and provided all household items needed to build a home for a mother and her young kids whose home was recently burnt down.

  • Fully furnished the apartment of a person (who until recently was living in a shelter) and has been living in an empty space until now.

  • Supplied all basic clothing needs to an additional 14 migrant families (a total number of 38 individuals) ranging from 2 months old to adult.

January: Partnered with six asylum-seeking families to provide warm clothes and new wardrobes to help start their lives here in New York. Supported an individual recently granted refugee status to furnish their new home with essential furnishings and kitchen supplies.

November and December: Provided winter coats and boots to over 100 migrants (adults and children) and groceries and phones to several others.

October: Assisted another 10 families which brings our total of 33 families and 54 kids. Provided new sneakers to all as well as several other donated items and getting these families connected to community.

August and September: Assisted a group of 23 families with a total of 36 babies and children with emergency items such a clothing, footwear, strollers (8 new ones thanks to Mockingbird), diapers, baby formula, groceries, toiletries, blenders to make baby food and so on.

July:

  • Refugee support: Moved an Afghan family of six closer to their family to help them settle in better to life in the United States.

  • Supported four asylum-seeking families from Latin America with emergency food and assisted with their clothing needs.

  • Provided a veteran transitioning from homelessness into a permanent home with food supplies, furniture and clothing needed.

May and June:

  • Partnered with our friends at YFC to provide furniture and housewares for a family who lost all to a fire.

  • Coordinated the donation of traditional Afghani clothing for refugee families to build out their wardrobes.

  • Supported single asylum mothers in shelters in New York with emergency food, clothing, and baby supplies during crisis situations.

  • Provided clothing and connection to resources to individuals experiencing homelessness.

April:

  • Supported 3 convoys of medical supplies that are on their way to hardest hit areas of Ukraine to provide relief to families on the frontlines.

  • Partnered with The Migrant Kitchen to provide over 300 hijabs to mosques in the Bronx over the Eid holiday, and shared over 100 scarves with other local partners.

  • Provided critical services to individuals experiencing homelessness such as clothing, housing advocacy and access to birth certificates.

  • Partnered with our friends at YFC to get access to furniture for a recently incarcerated youth who starts a new life!

March:

  • Providing over 100 care kits through our partnership with Renaissance Church for our friends experiencing homeless and/or poverty.

  • Create community for our One Always Matters members by participating together in the annual Don’t Walk By outreach serving our unhoused guests and building community and home for our 4 Afghani families.

  • Support several single mothers and other at-risk women across shelters in New York with emergency food, clothing, and baby supplies during crisis situations.

February:

  • Making home and community through weekly visits and support for recently arrived 4 Afghani families (consisting of 13 children!) in the Jersey City area.

  • Providing essential items and support to our marginalized neighbors by assisting with clothing, toiletries and connecting them to resources.

January:

  • provide essential winter gear to our homeless neighbours with NEW and gently used

  • source and arrange for the delivery of furniture for Afghani refugee families either in temporary or permanent housing

  • provide continued community and support to our marginalized friends with whom we have built relationships.

December:

  • send holiday cards to refugee moms, dads and kids currently trapped in immigrant detention who remain held in Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody

  • provide our homeless neighbors with NEW coats, gloves, scarves and hoodies bought by you through our Amazon Registry (as well as the items received through donations

  • for our Afghani refugee friends spending their first holidays here - toys for the children.

November:

  • Provided furnishings, and helped make and set up for a young mother of 2 transitioning out of homelessness. 

October:

Books, Toys and Activities for our little friends new to the US.

  • In addition to furnishing their apartment, provide an Afghani family with 4 young children who just moved into their new home with clothes, toys, books and activities and essential items for their baby.

  • Provide essential baby items for an Honduran refugee mother and baby (due end of October) and winter wear and toys for her 2 other young children.

  • Continued to purchase and distribute clothing and other essential items, including, backpacks, metrocards and other supplies for friends experiencing homelessness and those in our asylum and refugee communities. 

September 2021:

  • Furnish an apartment for an Afghan refugee family, and provided them with basic supplies to restart life in the US.

  • Supported our partners at City Relief by providing over 250 people with pizza during their weekly outreaches, after their base flooded with Hurricane Ida. This made sure no friends went hungry during their time of need.

August 2021:

  • Provided four Syrian families in a refugee resettlement in Jordan with new clothes and basic essentials, including makeup and jewelry for Syrian moms! We also provided multiple iPads and tablets to families with young children who continue to face school closures and lack of educational opportunities.

  • Continued to provide for families seeking asylum here in New York, meeting their ongoing needs, including collecting and moving furniture and furnishing homes. 

  • Continued to distribute clothing and other essential items, including canes, backpacks, metrocards and other supplies for friends experiencing homelessness.

July 2021:

  • Sourced 4 iPads for our upcoming trip to Syrian refugee settlements in Jordan. This month, we will be meeting with refugee families, and this will enable them to participate in remote learning.

  • Helped a refugee family reuniting with their children furnish their home to welcome their kids to the United States.

  • Provided a job uniform and transportation for a shelter guest’s first month on her new job.

  • Continued to provide for families seeking asylum here in New York, meeting their ongoing needs, including collecting and moving furniture. 

  • Continued to distribute clothing and other essential items, including canes, backpacks, and other supplies for friends experiencing homelessness. 

June 2021:

  • Coordinated and funded the delivery and distribution of 1200 donated individually packed meals to 2 non-profit organizations serving the community.

  • With City Relief, helped our friends experiencing homelessness and addiction reach rehab and detox services by paying for transportation.

  • Supported a stranded traveler experiencing hardship with a one-way bus ticket back to his hometown. 

  • Continued to provide for families seeking asylum here in New York, meeting their ongoing needs, including collecting and moving furniture for a family preparing to reunite with their children. 

  • Continued to distribute clothing and other essential items, including canes, backpacks, and other supplies for friends experiencing homelessness. 

May 2021:

Generator for the farm in Syria

Generator for the farm in Syria

  • Furnished the home of an asylum seeker from East Africa as they transitioned out of a shelter and into their own first home.

  • Provided a generator and other critical supplies to keep a small family farm alive in Syria, which provides food for a small community heavily affected by the war.

  • Supported the healthcare of a mother in Syria after she suffered a debilitating illness and needed emergency care.

  • Distributed approximately 60 items per week of basic clothing to families and friends in need across New York.

April 2021:

  • Helped an elderly individual facing long-term homelessness find secure transitional housing and assist navigating health and social services in order to restart his life after 20 years of homelessness.

  • Worked with a local New York City school to send dozens of encouragement cards to families in transitional housing in New York as well as migrant families detained at the Southern Border.

  • Furnished the homes for two senior citizens who recently won the Affordable Housing Lottery, providing beds, furniture and other items to ensure they have a safe, comfortable place to call home. They had been sleeping on the floor and lacked any furnishings prior to the One Always Matters community stepping in.

  • Provided beds and mattresses for a refugee family of five from Honduras, who had been sleeping on the floor after job cuts and other hardships during the pandemic.

  • Distributed 200 items of clothing, toiletries and other essential items to communities facing homelessness and extreme poverty across New York City.

  • Secured funding and resources to help a 76 year old man find shelter and transitional housing after decades living on the streets (updates to come when we locate him)!

February 2021

  • Provided 10 food boxes and bottled water for 1 month for three Syrian families including winter clothes for their 6 children.

  • Purchased steel toe boots to enable a friend on the street get back into the work-force.

  • Delivered 120 cold-weather and other items to homeless friends and those facing economic hardship across the city, including sweaters, coats, hats, gloves, boots, toiletries.

  • Secured a piano for a New York City juvenile detention center’s chapel, providing incarcerated youth with a source of music and fun.

  • Covered rent for a migrant friend on their way to self-sufficiency.

  • Delivered nearly 200 cold-weather items to homeless friends and those facing economic hardship across the city, including sweaters, coats, hats and gloves.

  • Homeless outreach on New Year’s Day during which we handed out 83 sandwiches, 68 baked goods, 15 bags of PPE (masks, hand sanitizers), 16 hand warmers, 10 hygiene kits, 20 pairs of Bombas socks, 10 winter hats, 8 sets of thermals, 5 pairs of mens jeans, 4 sweatshirts, 3 winter coats and various toiletries.

  • Homeless outreach on Christmas day during which we handed out 72 sandwiches, 80 bags of baked goods, 30 bags of PPE (masks, hand sanitizers), 60 pairs of Bombas socks, 30 hand warmers, 28 hygiene kits, 10 winter hats, 7 sets of thermals and 2 winter coats.

  • send holiday cards to refugee moms, dads and kids currently trapped in immigrant detention who remain held in Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody

  • provide our homeless neighbors with 35 winter coats, 19 hoodies, 45 pairs of gloves, 55 winter hats, 49 scarves and 6 pairs of winter boots

  • for our refugee friends spending their first holidays here - 160 toys.

  • Serve Thanksgiving meals at The Bowery Mission

  • 4 pies delivered to 2 refugee shelters

  • provide our homeless neighbors with 25 scarves, 15 winter coats, 11 warm hats and 9 pairs of gloves

  • 520 pretzel and cheese balls snacks and 1040 Reese’s Peanut Butter Chocolate Cups to brighten our homeless friends’ soup and bread bags

October 2020:
